It’s a brave new world, but sometimes going forward means taking a look back in time. Way back in the early days of our dealership, H.B. Kinnel, who married Lillie Farrow after the untimely death of A.D. Farrow, wrote a newsletter called “Throttletwisters.” In the spirit of that journal, this special access area of our newsletter will feature fun tidbits, rantings and general merriment for you to enjoy. Thanks!

Did you know?

A.D. Farrow Co. Harley-Davidson & Buell is on track to reach a major milestone with our Rider’s Edge New Rider Program by the end of this year – our 2000 th graduate! Hmmm, think we might have a reunion party this fall? Stay tuned!

It's Dyno-mite

We are good friends with TNT Harley-Davidson in Quincy, Illinois (they served as the turnaround point for our recent 1,000-mile ride). On Thursday, Sept. 6, TNT Harley-Davidson will host a Pre-Rally Party for riders from North and East of Quincy, Illinois, who are headed to Kansas City for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Heartland-Hope Rally, Harley-Davidson’s Kansas City Factory Open House or the Missouri State HOG Rally in St. Joseph.  TNT will be BBQ'ing and will have beverages available for the

riders (there's even talk of a band!). The party begins at 5 p.m. CST and runs til "whenever" Thursday night.  On Friday morning, Sept. 7, they're hoping to pull together a large group ride for the final leg of the trip to Kansas City.  Our friend Jim Ulm personally invites riders representing A.D. Farrow Co. and any members of the Columbus H.O.G. Chapter who might be making the trip West that weekend to stop on by! Additionally, discounted hotel accommodations can be secured through Holly Cain at the QCVB (Hcain@quincy-cvb.org or 217.223.1000).

Winning answers to last week’s questions (Note: Yes, the same three people won all three times below. Why? These were awesome answers, as you can read for yourself!)

If you could ride anywhere, where would it be?

Darrin Adams: If I could ride anywhere, I would take my Heritage back to Bavaria and ride. There is a little town named Garmish that is in the valley of the Alps of southern Germany. The homes are hundreds of years old. It is surrounded by pristine pine mountains and is located on the border of Austria and is very close to Italy. Many of the homes have murals painted right on the sides of the houses depicting historical events in the region and are simply breathtaking. Riding through the villages, mountains and along the streams filled with clear mountain fed waters is truly beyond appropriate description. Garmish leaves you honestly feeling blessed for the experience seeing the beauty of this place on Earth. The village is like a storybook scene. The friendliness of the people, the festive air that is constant and the pure joy of seeing it all again on the wheels of a Harley-Davidson is something that every human being deserves to see. If it sounds like it is too good to be true… it almost is.

Larry Balla: North to Alaska! Follow in the footsteps of John Wayne in the movie "North to Alaska" … while playing the old Johnny Horton song of the same name. Hit the Trans-Canada highway, dodging the moose and bears along the way! Travel to the land of the Midnight Sun ... during the time of year when it is light for about 20 hours per day, to maximize ride time! Travel through Juneau, Fairbanks, and up to Prudhoe Bay. Have a feast of whale blubber and polar bear ribs at an Eskimo Village, try my hand at salmon and trout fishing, visit Denali Park; the possibilities are endless!

Deborah Peters: I would LOVE to ride in Tuscany!  Ever since I saw a movie, 'Under the Tuscan Sun' I have been wanting to go there.  In the movie, the actress gets a ride on a scooter to her destination, I can imagine my husband and I on our big old Hog just rumblin’ up and down the streets, what a dream!

If you could ride with anyone, who would it be?

Darrin Adams: If I could ride with anyone, Iwould ride with my Father who passed away at the early age of 49. I discovered after his death that my Father came home from the Korean War and purchased a Harley. Just a few years ago, my Mother gave me a picture of him sitting on his bike as a young man. Dad passed when I was just 16 years old and he never got to see me graduate from both HS and college, nor did he get to experience seeing me serve our nation for 21 years in the active Army. While this may seem like a sad story, I believe that he has watched me all these years and indeed has participated in these adventures with me. All of us who ride a HD know the pride and extreme satisfaction we feel every time that we swing a leg over the saddle. I just know that my Father felt the same way and a week long ride with him alone out west would be my wish. Thanks for asking this question and for leaving me feeling pretty good about a Father-Son relationship that transcends time.

Larry Balla: That would have to me my Dad....long since passed on. The first bike that I ever rode was a 1971 Honda 125 that he bought and hid away, so that my Mom wouldn't know that he'd purchased a bike (and a snowmobile...we gotta have our toys!) That little Honda got me started on the rode to motorcycling. I think that he would enjoy the ride. He always wanted to travel … maybe he'd join me on the trip to Alaska!

Deborah Peters: I can't imagine riding with anyone other than my husband.  He is a retired firefighter, has been riding for over 40 years and with him I feel SO SAFE.  It just doesn't get better than that :)

If you could ride any bike, what would it be?

Darrin Adams: If I could ride any bike I would ride the "Captain America" chopper that Peter Fonda rode in the great biker movie. I think that everyone knows this bike and to those of us who love to ride, it is a piece of

Americana. Riding the polished red, white and blue chopper ... knowing its significance and history would be a dream come true for any Harley Davidson enthusiast.

Larry Balla: Got it right now: my 2005 Road King... Rode it for a year at work, purchased it when the lease with the City ( Village of Grandview Police) was up. It has carried me to Montana, across the Beartooth Pass, through Yellowstone Park, along the Oregon Trail, Skyline Drive, and soon, to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. My first year as a motor cop. Lots of memories already, and I'm only at 21,000 miles!

Deborah Peters: I was the one drooling over that new 2008 Springer, that is THE bike for me, and someday I will get one, that's for sure!
